When to Come
Bodrum has an Aegean Mediterranean climate — hot dry summers, mild wet winters. Early June and September are the sweet spot: the sea sits at 23–25 °C, the air at around 30 °C, and both crowds and prices are well below the July–August peak. September in particular holds the year’s warmest water after the schools have gone back.
July and August reach 34 °C by day and are the busiest and most expensive weeks of the year; the sea peaks at 26–27 °C and the meltemi wind gets up in the afternoon. May and October are the value months — the sea is still swimmable at 20–22 °C and the ancient sites are comfortable to walk around.
November to March is genuinely wet, with ten to twelve rainy days a month and the sea down to 15–18 °C. Many beach businesses close, but Bodrum town, Yalıkavak marina and Gümüşlük stay open all year, and flights and hotels cost a fraction of the summer rate.
How Weather Affects Flights at Bodrum
Contrary to a common assumption, ordinary summer heat and the afternoon meltemi rarely cause delays at Bodrum. The two conditions that genuinely affect operations are low visibility and a low cloud base, which force instrument approaches and increase the spacing between aircraft, and thunderstorms, which can close the airspace briefly and send aircraft into a hold or a diversion.
Strong crosswinds matter only when they exceed an aircraft type’s demonstrated limit. For the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families that fly almost all Bodrum traffic that is a high threshold and rarely reached here. A tailwind on one runway direction is not a delay cause at all — the airport simply operates in the opposite direction.
In practice the bigger summer risk is not the weather at Bodrum but knock-on delay: an aircraft that lost time earlier in Europe arrives late, and the turnaround absorbs only part of it. The swimming season
June to October. The sea passes 20 °C in May, peaks at 26–27 °C in July and August, and is still around 22 °C at the end of October — warm by northern European standards.

Sheltered or exposed
The south coast — Bitez, Ortakent, Akyarlar — is sheltered and calm. The north coast — Türkbükü, Gündoğan, Torba — catches the meltemi, which is why the windsurfers and kitesurfers go there.

Summer traffic, not summer storms
In July and August the road from the airport can take 20–50 % longer than the published drive time. Build that into your arrival plan rather than the weather.

Most European routes stop between November and March, leaving mainly domestic services to Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir. Winter rain rarely closes the airport but does thin the schedule.
