What a Boat Day Actually Involves
A standard daily tour leaves the harbour mid-morning and returns in the late afternoon. The price normally covers the captain and one or two crew, lunch — chicken or fish with salad and fruit — unlimited tea, coffee and water, five or six bay stops, a toilet and shower on board and insurance. Snorkel gear is provided on some boats.
What is not included is alcohol, which is sold from the on-board bar, sunbed hire at certain bays, towels, sun cream and the customary tip to the crew. Bring two towels from the hotel: most boats carry very few. An inflatable mat and a waterproof phone case earn their space.
Book ahead in July and August, when tours fill a week or two in advance, and arrive at the marina about an hour before departure. Choose an insured, well-reviewed operator rather than a quayside offer. Life jackets are compulsory for children, and under-sixes generally do better on a shorter four-hour trip from the town harbour.
The Kos Ferry
The crossing takes 30 minutes from in front of Bodrum Castle to Kos harbour.

Kos old town, the Hippocrates plane tree and the Neratzia Castle are all within walking distance of the harbour. The last boat back leaves in the late afternoon, so you have a full day.
