Taxi fares here are set by the meter, not by negotiation. Understanding how it works is what protects you.
Insist on the meter, every time. A licensed taxi is yellow, has visible plate and permit details and runs the meter as standard. A driver who approaches you inside the terminal offering a fixed price is not the official service — use the rank outside the exit.
How the Fare Is Calculated
There is no published fare table for airport taxis, because the price is whatever the meter shows at the end of the journey. That is the point of the system: the meter is compulsory for every licensed taxi, and a metered price is almost always better than one agreed in advance in an unfamiliar currency.
Between 00:00 and 06:00 the night tariff applies, adding 50 % to the fare. The meter switches to night mode automatically at midnight and back at six. On public holidays and certain special days the night tariff can apply through the day as well.
There is no lawful surcharge for luggage. If a driver asks for one, decline. Carry Turkish lira: some taxis take cards and contactless, but it is not guaranteed and you should not rely on it after a late-night arrival.

Fares are determined by the meter and vary with traffic. The night tariff between 00:00 and 06:00 adds 50 %. In July and August allow 20–50 % longer than the stated drive time.

Taxi, Coach or Transfer?
For a solo traveller or a couple heading to Bodrum town, the HAVAŞ coach at 230 TL is far cheaper and takes about the same time. For two or three people, or when the coach does not serve your destination, a metered taxi is a reasonable and completely spontaneous option.
For four or more, for families with children and luggage, or for the western towns like Yalıkavak and Gümüşlük, a pre-booked private transfer priced per vehicle usually works out better and removes the uncertainty entirely — the driver tracks the flight and waits if you are late.
