Which Airport Should You Fly Into for Bodrum?
For a Bodrum holiday the answer is Milas-Bodrum in almost every case. Here is the arithmetic, and the handful of situations where it changes.
The Short Answer
Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is 37 km from Bodrum town centre, about 35 minutes by road. The HAVAŞ coach and the Muttaş network are built around it, and every town on the peninsula is between 20 and 60 minutes away. The two realistic alternatives — Dalaman to the south-east and İzmir to the north — are 172 km and 205 km away respectively, which is three hours or more of driving after you land.
A different airport is only worth considering in three situations: the fare is dramatically cheaper, you are stopping somewhere else on the way, or BJV simply has no suitable flight in the winter schedule. In each case, work out the total cost, because a long ground transfer erases a cheap fare quickly.

When Another Airport Makes Sense
- 1
You are only going to Bodrum
Then it is BJV without hesitation. Bodrum town is 35 minutes away and every peninsula village is between 20 and 60 minutes, with a coach and a municipal bus network designed around the airport.
BJV
- 2
You are touring the coast southwards first
If Fethiye or Marmaris comes before Bodrum in your itinerary, landing at Dalaman and driving north afterwards can work — but treat the three-hour leg as a travel day, not an afternoon.
consider DLM
- 3
You want to see İzmir, Ephesus or Kuşadası too
İzmir has by far the largest year-round schedule. Spend a day or two there, then take the road south through Selçuk and Milas. As a pure Bodrum transfer, though, 205 km is a long way.
consider ADB
- 4
You are arriving late at night
BJV, decisively. HAVAŞ coaches run until late for arriving flights and the taxi rank works around the clock. Three hours of unfamiliar road at two in the morning is a poor start to a holiday.
BJV
- 5
You are flying in winter
BJV drops to five to eight direct routes outside the season, mostly Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir. If nothing fits, connecting through Istanbul or flying into İzmir and driving may be the only option.

Counting the Total, Not the Fare
The comparison people get wrong is fare against fare. A cheaper seat into a distant airport still needs a vehicle for 172 or 205 km, at a price per vehicle that does not fall when the fare does — and on those routes there is no equivalent of the HAVAŞ coach, so the cheap public option does not exist either.
Add the time, too. Landing at BJV, most visitors are in their hotel within an hour and a half of the wheels touching down. From Dalaman or İzmir the same arrival becomes a four-hour afternoon, and a night flight becomes a night drive.
Our distance chart lists every town on the peninsula with its distance and drive time from BJV, and the transport guide compares the coach, taxi, transfer and car hire options side by side.
Choosing an Airport — Frequently Asked Questions
Which airport is closest to Bodrum?
Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV), 37 km from Bodrum town centre — about 35 minutes by road. It is by a wide margin the closest airport to the whole peninsula.
How far is Dalaman Airport from Bodrum?
About 172 km, which is roughly three hours and ten minutes of driving. There is no direct airport coach between the two, so the whole distance has to be covered by car or private transfer.
How far is İzmir Airport from Bodrum?
About 205 km, or three and a half hours by road. İzmir has the largest year-round schedule of the three, which can matter in winter, but as a pure transfer to Bodrum it is a long way.
Is it worth flying into a cheaper airport and driving?
Only if the fare saving clearly exceeds the cost of 170–200 km of ground transport, and you are content to lose most of a day each way. For Bodrum itself that arithmetic rarely works out.
Which airport is best for a late-night arrival?
Milas-Bodrum. HAVAŞ coaches are scheduled around arriving flights until late at night and the taxi rank operates 24 hours, so you avoid a three-hour drive in the dark.
